Unrelated Similarities

To the thousands of you posting questions about the doxies and their eyes (okay, maybe only you, Red Hamster, my fabulous bloggy friend and sole other reader than myself), yes, both dogs have one brown eye, and one blue.  Jasper's is the lighter and more noticeable of the two, but the Nut has one, too.  And, the same eye - the right, when facing.

The dogs are not related, at least to the best of our knowledge, but it is one of the reasons Peanut came to live with us.  We got Jasper first, with a plan to get another doxie to keep him company.  But Jasper was so miserable each day when I left for work, crying, and my agreement with the Fiance was that we would get two dogs, I felt under pressure to find a buddy for J-man.

But, as the Fates would have it, no girl doxies were up for adoption that I could find.  Well, there might've been, but if there were there were none memorable and they didn't fit whatever parameters we had set up.  But then I saw Lillie, and though her photo on Petfinder.com was horrible, I thought she herself might be wonderful.  And the age seemed correct, etc.

A few days later Lillie came for a trial run.  And a day or so later I was about to give her back.  SHE WAS A COMPLETE SPAZ.  I mean, Jasper's Mr. Mellow, and here's this crazy nut with springs in her butt bouncing off me, off the walls, off Jasper!  UGH.  The Fiance was very, "I will support you in whatever you decide" (yay, good answer) and I actually called the woman from the rescue, saying I was bringing  her back.  But I was torn.  And so as it was the Fiance's birthday, I took him out and got him drunk, so he would tell me what he REALLY thought, and not just what he thought as a supportive partner (not that I don't like support, but sometimes you just wanna know, ya know?).  Turns out he thought she was a great dog, though yes, very energetic, and was for keeping her.

So the next morning, as he slept, I got up with Lillie (who's always been an early riser) and looked at her.  And I pulled out her paperwork, and began reading, and OH... the reason she's a spaz is that she was barely a year old! SHE'S A PUPPY!  Despite that the ad very specifically said she was about 3.  Hmm, I smell a rat!  But, once I learned that, I felt much better.  Because it wasn't that she was out-of-control maniac dog, she was a PUPPY.  She was supposed to be an out-of-control maniac.

So, Lillie stayed (just in case you didn't see that coming).  And a few months later, the Fiance says, "you know, we said we should get a doxie for Jasper to hang with - Lillie really isn't a great companion for him, cause she's so hyper."

I climbed on board that train lickety-split, and this time the Fates were with us.  Not only was there a lovely-looking girl doxie, but one with the same blue eye!  I called, she was available, and two days later I took the day off, drove to east BFE, and got Peanut - whose real name is Rosebud - from the Humane Society.  The dogs seemed got along with her fine when they met, so we loaded everyone back into the car and headed back to civilization.

And that's when the trouble started.

0kay, Seriously, Last One

Lillie, plowing through the backyard...

More Snowy Dog Shots

I'm just a sucker for dogs in snow.  What can I say?

 Is that a squirrel?
Peanut needs to catch some air to get around in this stuff!
Jasper appears ready to go inside.
Perhaps because he'd just been running in paths created by Lillie.  Thank God for a 'tall' dog!
Also, proof that I wasn't just being dramatic when if I said I was a bit worried about losing a dachshund out there!
Peanut tries to shake off, but it's not much help.  Needs to melt!
Time for everyone to head inside.  Hey, 'Nut - you're going the wrong direction!

AIN'T NO STINKIN' SNOW GONNA STOP ME AND MY JOY

My dog Lillie is one of the happiest dogs you'd ever want to meet.  She's a lesson in the joy of life, and a tonic for a grey day, whether of the soul or the outdoors.  So yesterday, when about the snow kept falling and falling and falling, it wasn't stopping her!  No way!  She LOOOOOVES to be outdoors, and she LOOOOVES to run laps around the yard.  The fact that she's only about 15 inches high at the head, and that the snow in the backyard was 17 or so (and I'm not talking drifed - I'm talking legit falling snow buildup - it was seriously crazy), was not enough to slow her down.  Nope, Lillie's like an optimist in the center of a disaster - keep your head down and just keep moving forward.

Which is exactly what was happening in the shot above, taken with the Retro Camera app on my phone.  You may note there's a relatively clean line in the snow which can be followed from the back left of the picture, ending in the front center-left.  At that end, you note a poof of snow?  A burst, a froth?  And below it, perhaps a bit of black?  That's my Lillie!!  On one of her greyhound-like runs.

GO LILLIE GO!!

Slacker

So I'm a slacker.  Seriously - it's January 7 and I'm posting the Christmas picture of the dogs!!  Anyone other than me see something wrong there?

And my last posting was THANKSGIVING.

Good grief.

Lots is happening.  I think this year will be a year of positive change.  I'm a strong proponent of sharing plans, desires, hopes and dreams.  After all, if you don't know what you want, you won't be able to get to it.  And if others don't know what you want, they can never help you attain it.  Sometimes, it's the smallest actions that can assist - even just a kind word.  I think it's a good idea to blog some of this.  So I'm committing to blog at least once a week.  I would commit to more, but my hope is that I'm going to have enough other stuff going on to make it difficult to blog more than that.

So, I hope you enjoy the dogs' picture.  Talk to you soon -
